The Chronicle of Higher Education has a short article (subscription required) on an art exhibit at Rice University of Mike Stilkey’s paintings on the spines and covers of books he has collected. “I see shape and lives in books, and there’s something magical about painting on them and breathing new stories into them . . . I feel like my paintings can create a second life for the books.” The installation, “When Animals Rebel,” can only be seen through glass because the gallery is closed for the summer. I guess the animals rebellion didn’t get them out of the zoo.
